Mbikko is situated in an area where there is a demand in cleaning services. When women first join the program, and realize that prostitution is not a good way of earning a living, 70 percent of the women normally take the initiative and turn to washing clothes for people to earn some little money.
We feel that if it is done in an organized way, it will turn out to be both profitable to the organization and to the women at large. We are now working on how much the project will cost and where to plant it. The cleaning services will help employ the women immediately after completion of the program acting as a way of support that will give support to the women during the first six months after the program. This will enable the women to stabilize their businesses without spending money from their young businesses; and SWAR will also benefit from it as it will also serve as an income generating activity for the organization.
